WordPress Wizard Waves his Magic Wand!

Stockpile Media

Tracy starts the day!

I was lost in a sea of social media! I thought I had WordPress down, had been blogging on a regular basis, and knew how to navigate the basics. And then they improved the site. Oh no! Where did my buttons go? While I was busy focusing on my book “Flying High with Carole Jean,” and not blogging much it all changed.

I tried to update my photo and I ended up with the words of my tagline covering my face with my new and improved photo. I tried and tried to fix it, but decided to ignore it and focus on the writing part. As a writer, I want to write. But! These days, if you want to succeed in the rapid-fire world, you have to participate in self-publishing, social media which isn’t just Facebook any more – it’s Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, and…and…and…Oy! I can’t keep up. It’s sink or swim, so I will continue to dog-paddle.

Oh, but wait. There is Tracy Rigdon

My New Best Friend!

of Stockpile Media to the rescue! When I saw his introductory post on Facebook, I was visiting family in the U.S. I immediately sent out an S.O.S. And I received a reply. Immediately! We set an appointment for the Monday following my return to Atenas. Just having the appointment sent me into a calm state instead of feeling like the Wicked Witch of the West when she was crying, “I’m melting! Melting!”

I had been bombarded by self-publishing companies such as CreateSpace, BookBaby, AuthorHouse,  Blurb, and Xilibri Publishing for months. One inquiry about how their program works, and you are theirs. They do not take “NO!” for an answer. They promise you fame and fortune – for a fee, or ten.

And then I met Tracy. His friendly, professional manner set me at ease from the very first greeting. After we sat at my favorite business table (the one with the power outlet) at one of my favorite restaurants in Atenas, Costa Rica, Antaño’s, we started talking turkey. We both set out our laptops, cell phones, old-fashioned yellow-pads and pens, he started with the questions, some of which he knew the answers to since he had “Googled” me. Of course. I had Googled him as well! Good business practice.

“So what about your Facebook Fan page?” he asked.

“Fan page? Don’t have one.”

Bam! He waved his magic wand. “Now you do!”

“What about your website?” he continued.

“Hmmm. Don’t have that either.”

Bam!! “There ya go.”

“Cool.” said I, nodding my head. I’m somebody now.

“Are you tweeting?” he cocked his head.

“Oh no! I don’t Tweet. I have a Twitter account, but I don’t know how to use it.” I whined.

“Not to worry, we’ll get you up to speed in no time. I will start working on this later today, get you a logo, set up your website, www.caroleconnolly.com where you can be easily found by your readers. and make it user-friendly. You’ll be up and running shortly, so get going on that next book, while I take care of all the techie stuff. It’s what I do.”
